Visiting numerous art galleries, Yolanda looked at painting after painting, photograph after photograph, and saw an absence. This absence was a lack of images that reflected herself.

Through a series of patterned movements, Yolanda recreates fluidity, inner strength, sensuality and grace; all qualities of herself that reflect a larger culture.

Her movements are an expressive documentation of internal qualities and processes; things she knows to be true but cannot express with words. She moves with acknowledgment of the intangible side of art, the bodily and cellular functions that happen constantly without our consent.

In these photographs, she is the subject, not the photographer. But Yolanda, rather than the photographer, is the subject's choreographer.

She is herself, her ancestors, and her people, and a holistic truth resounds within the particular truth she confronts through expressions.
